Posting Your Job Advertisement

As one of the admins of the Philippines HR Group, I often get to see a lot of HR professionals submit job advertisement post for approval. Some advertisements are really great, some actually make me shake my head. That said, if you are one of those who take advantage of FB and other Social Networking Sites when posting job advertisements, I have a few tips for you:

Requirement: Male/ Female

If you are posting an advertisement where the sex (NOTE: gender is different from sex) of the employee is not important, or there is no preference set, there is no need to put "Male or Female". You can only choose from Male or Female so why the need to put it as a qualification? "Ayaw po kasi namin sa mga bakla/ tomboy/ etc." Why? Do you feel that their gender orientation will affect the quality of their work? Be careful that you are not discriminating against member of the LGBTQ+ community.

On a side note, if you are confused on the difference between sex and gender, this might be a good read.

Wrong spelling, wrong!

Double check your spelling! How you create your job advertisement may be seen by the applicants as a reflection of you and your company. Hinde naman madalian ang pagpo-post nang job advertisement, so why not review and make necessary edits before you post it online?

At the same time, check also if your sentences make sense. I have seen a lot of advertisements where the sentence does not make sense. If English is not your strong suit, get someone to check the advertisement for you. Double check the words that you use as well as your subject-verb agreement.

Text + Image = Success!

When posting job openings on different social networking sites, make sure that you include a text description of what your post is all about. Some applicants have free data so they may not get to see what you have indicated in your poster. At the same time, the chances of applicants sending in their CV/ resume to you gets reduced if they still have to retype the email address where they can send their application. Mas mabilis if they can just copy and paste the email address sabay send. Or, better yet, have a link indicated in the text/ description part where they can upload their CV.

Final Words

As a Talent Acquisition professional, your aim is to get the right person for the right position at the right time. Make sure you make it easy for them to apply, go through the process, and get to know if they are qualified or not. The simpler the process, the better.
